British science fiction and fantasy author Liz Williams has contributed a signed copy of her new novel Winterstrike (September 2008) to an online auction to help Vera Nazarian, an independent publisher in the United Kingdom, save her home from foreclosure. Winterstrike, which is set on Mars and involves a library, was named one of Amazon UK’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2008. The novel has not yet been released in the United States.
Another interesting item you can bid on to help Vera save her home: an adventurer to be named after you, in a forthcoming Forgotten Futures role playing game that is based on Stanley Weinbaum’s 1930s science fiction. Weinbaum's "A Martian Odyssey" (1934) is considered one of the best short stories in the history of SF.
