Looney Tunes: Crazed killer has Marvin the Martian tattoo

The Tampa Tribune reports that Edward Covington, who is accused of choking, beating, stabbing, dismembering and mutilating his girlfriend and her two young children on Mother’s Day in Lutz, Florida, last year, has several tattoos, including one of Looney Tunes cartoon character Marvin the Martian. According to the newspaper, deputies found Covington, 37, huddled in a closet with blood on his hands, under his fingernails, on the tops and bottoms of his feet and on his back. Charges against Covington include three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of abuse of a dead human body and one count of felony animal cruelty. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

According to the online rap sheet maintained by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Katrina Lavern Hinds, a 38-year-old woman who was convicted of second degree rape in March 2009, has a tattoo of Marvin the Martian on her abdomen.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Victor M. Sanchez, a 31-year-old man who was convicted of “lewd or lascivious molestation victim 12-15 years old offender 18 or older” in 2008 and sentenced to 5 years in prison, sports a tattoo of cartoon character Marvin the Martian on his left shoulder. Sanchez is currently housed at the Holmes Correctional Institution and is scheduled to be released in mid-2011.

According to a recent edition of Manhunt Monday in the El Paso County, Texas area, Gilberto Orozco, a 31-year-old man who is accused of raping a pregnant woman in 2007 and assaulting and repeatedly threatening to kill his girlfriend in 2009, failed to attend a March 2010 court appearance and is considered a fugitive from justice. Orozco sports a tattoo of cartoon character Marvin the Martian on his upper right arm.

Looney Tunes: Crazed killer Amy Bishop wrote a novel titled Martians in Belfast

The Boston Globe reports that Amy Bishop, the biology professor at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, who shot three of her colleagues to death last Friday, attended a writers group in the Boston area in the early 1990s in which she wrote a dramatic novel titled Martians in Belfast. According to one member of group, the novel “recounted the life of a girl growing up during the Troubles of Ireland.” No word on whether or not Bishop sports a tattoo of Marvin the Martian.
