Mars Inspires Writers

Here’s a short but neat article that was published in The News-Press of Southwest Florida on Christmas Eve, when the Red Planet was shining bright: “Mars Intrigues Man and Inspires Writers,” by Kevin Lollar.

Speaking of Edison’s Conquest of Mars, by Garrett P. Serviss (1898), we visited the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers a few years ago and were impressed with both the museum and the botanical gardens.

Speaking of Naples author Ben Bova, his third novel about the Red Planet, Mars Life, is due out in August 2008. Meanwhile, you can visit his website or read one of his Naples Daily News columns: “Phil Concert Provides a Trip to Mars, History Lesson," May 26, 2007.

And, what did we find under the tree this morning? Science Fiction: the Illustrated Encyclopedia (1995). Thanks, Santa!
