“Mars and Beyond,” Walt Disney’s 1957 animated Sci/SF television special

Although I’ve been aware of it for quite some time, Irene Gallo, art director of Tor.com, finally inspired me to watch Walt Disney’s animated science & science fiction television special “Mars and Beyond.” Originally aired on December 4, 1957, this landmark visual treat is, as Gallo eloquently writes, “a great mix of fact and supposition with an amazing, and seemingly endlessly creative, design. It covers historical astronomical beliefs, the beginnings of science fiction literature, ‘current’ science, and a fantastical array of what-if Martians. It’s both delightful and scientific without ever being silly
or dry.”

While “Mars and Beyond” is archived in six parts on YouTube and Wikipedia has a decent description, you’ll have a more enjoyable experience if you let Irene Gallo and Tor.com serve as your guide!
